Product Description
The Trimble® Precision-IQ™ application used on the Android-based Agriculture displays, including the Trimble TMX-2050™ and GFX-750™ display systems has been updated in February 2018. This update includes the support of xFill® Premium for both displays. Prior to this update, the TMX-2050 supported xFill Premium on only the FmX® Plus app.
Powered by Trimble RTX™ technology, the xFill Premium service is an unlimited backup solution for RTK and VRS. It can be used to:
- Bridge correction signal interruptions with high accuracy for the duration of the interruption
- Mitigate outages due to scintillation interference
A subscription for the xFill Premium correction service is available for purchase from Trimble Positioning Services.
xFill Premium Features
- Unlimited time extended RTK operation keeps users in the field longer with fewer interruptions.
- Seamless switching ensures that automated steering continues smoothly when the system switches to xFill Premium positioning and then back to RTK.
- Global coverage area enables users worldwide to benefit from xFill Premium service, coverage maps are shown below.
- Compatible with both the Precision-IQ application and the FmX Plus app for all Agriculture application needs.
How It Works
The xFill Premium service allows continued field operations during RTK/VRS signal interruptions and during most periods of scintillation interference that renders RTK inoperable; xFill Premium delivers close to CenterPoint® RTX positioning accuracy for the duration of the interruption. This service extends Trimble’s standard xFill service, which is limited to 20 minutes. The feature can be set to automatically run when an RTK/VRS signal interruption occurs, be manually turned on, or be scheduled to automatically start and stop at specified times.
Availability and Requirements
Supported Devices. The xFill Premium service is available on the following devices:
- GFX-750 display system with the NAV-900 guidance controller o Running Precision-IQ, minimum version 1.20
- TMX-2050 display system o Running the FmX Plus app, minimum version 4.0.0 o Running Precision-IQ, minimum version 5.20
- AG-372 GNSS Receiver, minimum firmware version 7.00
Correction Source: RTK/VRS must be used as a primary correction source in order to use the xFill Premium service as a backup.
Licensing: The system must have a High-Accuracy license.
Availability: The xFill Premium service is available nearly worldwide in the same locations that Trimble RTX correction services are available via satellite.
To enable the xFill Premium service:
1. Make sure the system is up to date for firmware and software.
2. Make sure that the system is unlocked to the RTK level accuracy.
3. Make sure that the xFill Premium subscription has been activated.
4. Within the RTK/VRS configuration setup, make sure that xFill is switched on. Turning on xFill will also turn on xFill Premium.
First time xFill Premium service is used with an RTK base or a VRS correction stream Set your receiver to run in RTK/VRS mode with xFill Premium enabled, and start receiving RTK/VRS corrections from the RTK base station or VRS provider. xFill Premium service will converge in the background and then calibrate itself as a backup to the specific RTK base station or VRS stream that is being used. This automatic calibration process typically takes between 15 and 60 minutes.
If the receiver experiences an RTK/VRS corrections outage before xFill Premium is automatically calibrated, then calibration will pause, while the receiver transitions into standard xFill service. Calibration will resume after the correction stream resumes.
Once the automatic calibration is complete, if the receiver experiences RTK/VRS corrections outages, then the receiver will initially transition into standard xFill service, and subsequently transition into xFill Premium service. The receiver will continue to operate in the xFill Premium service until the RTK/VRS corrections resume.
The receiver can also be switched to xFill Premium mode manually after the calibration is complete. Standard xFill service will be skipped, and the receiver will transition directly to xFill Premium. The receiver must start with RTK/VRS and be used as a primary correction source in order to use the xFill Premium service as a backup.
Subsequent times xFill Premium is used with the same RTK base or VRS correction stream:
Set up your receiver in RTK/VRS mode with xFill Premium enabled, and start receiving RTK/VRS corrections from the RTK base station or VRS provider. xFill Premium service will recognize the base station so it will be able to use its prior automatic calibration value for the base station. xFill Premium will converge in the background, typically taking between 5 and 30 minutes, from the time the receiver is powered on.
When the receiver experiences RTK/VRS corrections outages, then the receiver will initially transition into standard xFill service. It will subsequently transition into xFill Premium service, if xFill Premium is converged.
What is the difference between the Trimble standard xFill service and xFill Premium?
The main differences between standard xFill service and xFill Premium are outlined in the table below:
Standard xFill Service | xFill Premium Service | |
Horizontal Accuracy | Starts at RTK/VRS level accuracy and gradually decreases over time | Starts at RTK/VRS level accuracy and smoothly transitions to CenterPoint® RTX level accuracy for the duration of the interruption |
Time of Operation | Can be used for up to 20 minutes after loss of RTK/VRS due to correction signal interruptions | Unlimited usage during RTK/VRS correction signal interruptions* |
Scintillation | Does not mitigate scintillation interference | Mitigates most scintillation interference |
Subscription | No subscription required | xFill Premium subscriptions can be purchased from Trimble Positioning Services |

What types of correction stream outages can the xFill Premium Service address?
Typical RTK outages are caused by obstructions that block the radio signals from the base station from reaching the GNSS radio. Typical VRS outages are caused by gaps in cellular network coverage, or a congestion on the cellular network. The xFill Premium service uses satellite delivered corrections to allow users to continue operating without RTK/VRS corrections for an unlimited period of time. In comparison, Trimble xFill provides a solution to bridge RTK/VRS outages for up to 20 minutes.
In addition to RTK/VRS outages, RTK/VRS may become inoperable at times of high scintillation activity. xFill Premium can be used to continue field operations during most periods of scintillation interference.
What factors can impact xFill Premium service accuracy?
The estimated accuracy of positions generated by the xFill Premium service depends on the convergence level of the underlying Trimble RTX position. The accuracy is independent of the time since the last RTK position and is independent of accuracy or datum with which the base station has been surveyed. Conversely, the accuracy of positions generated by xFill technology depend on the time elapsed since the last RTK position, and the accuracy with which the RTK base station has been surveyed.
Can xFill Premium be used under tree canopy?
Neither standard Trimble xFill nor the xFill Premium service can provide continued operation under dense tree cover or compromised GNSS signal environments. Upon exiting the tree cover, the xFill Premium service will allow a user to resume operation, while a receiver using standard xFill will have to wait for an RTK correction signal to resume operation.
When will the xFill Premium Service be activated?
xFill Premium will be activated in the same manner as all other Trimble RTX correction services. This can be through QR code activation, license file activation, or manual passcode activation. xFill Premium licenses are for a given NAV-900, TMX-2050, or AG-372 serial number.
